Another 3D Sculpt

About This Project

This project offered an opportunity to study the anatomy of a hand. We were provided with a base model to work from, with thin fingers that I used the foamy tool on (with a lot of amusement) to resemble my own. I had a lot of fun learning about hand anatomy, and I found some great references. I especially enjoyed learning about the veins visible on the back of my hand–I can vaguely see them on the back of my own hands, but not enough to truly understand how they’re placed until now. The nails posed quite a challenge, and I already have ideas on how to fix them if I return to this project. This entire project happened in Autodesk Mudbox. I learned a lot about the pose tool, which helped me to create this hand gesture from a relaxed hand. I also really enjoyed working on the knuckles–they really brought the gesture and the hand to life! Overall, this was one of my favorite projects because I learned a lot about anatomy and feel as if this is one of my most successful sculpts.
